A perceptive, detail-oriented designer, Jake specializes in working with business writers and editors to visualize complex data and information. He came to Leff’s design department from McKinsey, where he started as an intern in 2009 and worked his way up as a graphic designer and art director, eventually joining the McKinsey Quarterly team. Jake studied graphic design at the University of Illinois at Chicago; after he graduated in 2011, the university asked him to assist a class in designing a new product for a popular retail company. He has also worked as a freelance designer for several movie and music projects.

DeQuesha enjoys ensuring accuracy and improving readability of written documents, likely because of her many years of experience fact-checking, proofreading, and writing. Before joining Leff Communications as an editorial associate, DeQuesha worked in digital marketing as a campaign contributor. In addition, she was a staff writer at Time Out Chicago magazine. While covering Chicago’s “Around Town” beat, she gained a better appreciation for the entire story development process, from pitch to production. She holds a BA in journalism from Columbia College Chicago.

Scott has spent his career helping executives and subject matter experts tell their story in a compelling way. Prior to forming Leff Communications in 2010, he served as the director of publications for Chicago 2016, the city’s Olympic bid committee. In this position he wrote and edited official submissions to the International Olympic Committee live presentations, marketing collateral, and other communications materials. Scott came to Chicago 2016 from McKinsey & Company, where he spent seven years with the McKinsey Quarterly, the world’s leading journal of management and economics. For the last two years at the Quarterly, Scott was the managing editor, where he worked closely with a group of talented editors and led the production team.

Annie worked in marketing and taught college-level writing, humanities, and speech before joining the Leff Communications team. These experiences molded her into an assertive editor and communicator who is practiced at working together with students and clients to create fresh and articulate documents. More than anything, she enjoys helping people grasp the power of the written word when executed thoughtfully. She received an MA in writing and publishing from DePaul University and a BA in literature with minors in Spanish and classical studies from Butler University.

Heather brings more than 20 years of experience in business communications and a distinctive skill set to Leff Communications. While on the editorial staff of the McKinsey Quarterly, she worked closely with the firm’s partners and consultants to develop articles in a range of subject areas. Heather continues to serve clients in developing thought leadership on various topics, including strategy, innovation, finance, business technology, and healthcare. In addition to her work as an editor, Heather has firsthand experience in the logistics of publishing operations, including distribution, databases, and vendor management. She earned her MBA at DePaul University and her BA at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.

As a cross-channel marketer, Alia has created and executed strategic programs for enterprise clients across diverse industries, including healthcare, financial services, education, and technology. Previously, Alia was a senior media manager at Performics, Publicis Media’s global performance marketing brand, and served as the client services director at Target Data. She also has publishing experience from a marketing role at Smithsonian magazine, where she developed brand content and large-scale integrated media campaigns. Prior to entering the marketing world, Alia spent two years living and working in Ukraine, where she focused on educational development and nationwide HIV/AIDS outreach and funding. She holds a BA in writing and political science from Northwestern University.

As a writer, editor, and project manager, Brittany specializes in the editorial development of public, private, and nonprofit reports on economic and political reform, social issues, and leadership. She has several years of experience shepherding projects through the editorial production process, from ideation through proofreading. With a background in journalism, she enjoys creating cohesive narratives that forge an emotional connection with the target audience, and her deep familiarity with various style books makes her a meticulous editor. Brittany holds an MA in writing and publishing from DePaul University and a BS in journalism and political science from the Medill School at Northwestern University.

The principal visualization artist of Leff Communications, Delilah works collaboratively with the team to conceptualize and create all manner of graphic content. She’s been working with Scott and Heather since 2003, when she joined the Publishing Group at McKinsey & Company as a senior designer. During her 10 years at McKinsey, she worked extensively on the Quarterly, a leading global management publication for the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. In 2009, she was promoted to associate design director, and in 2014 she left to join the growing Leff Communications team. Delilah holds a BFA in graphic design from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Rodd spent more than 35 years as a working journalist, including time with daily newspapers, community journalism, and the business press. He spent nearly 30 years working for Crain Communications Inc. publications, including the last 20 with Business Insurance magazine, where his work included reporting on various risk management and commercial insurance topics. During his time at Business Insurance, Rodd also was editor of the magazine’s monthly Industry Focus supplement and served as special projects editor. Before joining Business Insurance, Rodd spent more than nine years on the staff of Crain’s City & State where he covered various public business and public finance issues including the municipal bond market.

In 2014, Leff Communications partnered with Highway M, a motion picture production company headed by Mike Russell. Mike is an industry veteran whose work is defined by a storyteller’s vision, an in-depth knowledge of production, and an understanding of business strategy and branding. For more than 15 years, Mike has traveled the world to produce compelling, dynamic content. His body of work includes corporate, product, event, and thought leadership videos. Highway M offers comprehensive video production services built during Mike’s decade in the Chicago motion picture industry. Starting with a foundation in documentary film editing, he branched out into all aspects of production—motion graphics, script development, and, eventually, directing and producing.

In 2015, Leff Communications partnered with Chicago Style SEO, a firm specializing in digital marketing and online content distribution. Founding partners Rod Holmes and Ben Robinson built the company to help businesses large and small stay visible and relevant in the constantly shifting online world through well-designed websites, digital marketing strategies that target the right keywords, and the management of pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. Their team includes experts in programming, IT and networking, AdWords, search engine optimization (SEO), analytics, and digital marketing strategy.
